11th-Ranked Chargers Too Much For Storm To Handle

PAINESVILLE, OH- Sophomore Jamie Hoppe (Green Springs, OH/Clyde) led the Lake Erie College women's volleyball team on Saturday with eight kills, but it wasn't enough as the Storm dropped their second home conference match in as many days, this time at the hands of 11th ranked Hillsdale College at the Jerome T. Osborne Center.

The Chargers took the match in three sets, 25-17, 25-15, 25-16.

Hillsdale was paced by Lauren Grover's seven kills, and also received an impressive performance by Apryl Schmucker, who turned in a match-high 19 assists.

The Storm (0-3, 0-2) jumped out to an early 3-1 lead in the first set, but the Chargers (5-1, 2-0) quickly rallied to score nine straight points and were on their way.

In addition to Hoppe's effort, junior Mary Walter (Solon, OH/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) provided Lake Erie with six kills of her own and a pair of service aces.  Senior setter Krista O'Connor (North Royalton, OH/North Royalton) led the LEC passing attack for the third straight match with 11 assists.

For the match, the Storm hit for a season-high .154 percentage.  However, Hillsdale's offensive attack proved to be too much to handle as the Chargers hit for a solid .290 number.

The Storm hits the court again tomorrow at home, hosting conference foe Wayne State at 2:00 pm.
