UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich.--The Lake Erie College volleyball team (2-9, 1-6 GLIAC) were defeated at Saginaw Valley State University (7-8, 3-3 GLIAC) in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest 3-0 on Friday night (Sept. 28) in University Center, Mich.
Saginaw Valley capitalized on fast starts in all three sets in the match, winning the sets 25-13, 25-13, 25-16.
Junior Jamie Hoppe (Green Springs, Ohio/Clyde) led the Storm with nine kills. Sophomore Samantha Knepley (Munith, Mich./Stockbridge) tallied 21 assists and six digs. Senior Rachel Ritt (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) had seven digs, the most for the Storm. Sara Aultz (Wooster, Ohio/Orrville) and classmate Knepley combined for four blocks. Junior Kristin Swann (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester) hit for .500%, recording two kills.
Kate Czopek led the Cardinals with 12 kills, and Laurel Matson had 20 digs in the contest. Two Cardinals-Lyndsay Reynolds and Andrea Mera-tallied three service aces.
The Storm continue their weekend in Michigan on Saturday (Sept. 29) at GLIAC foe Lake Superior State University in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. The match starts at 2 p.m.
