NORTH CANTON, Ohio—The Lake Erie College women's volleyball team fell short against Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference foe Walsh University in straight sets on Saturday (Oct. 27) in North Canton.
Walsh (8-13, 5-8 GLIAC) won the sets 25-18, 26-24, 25-21.
Walsh capitalized on a fast start in the first set to go ahead 1-0. The momentum continued for Walsh into the second set, but the Storm (3-19, 0-13 GLIAC) were able fight back and keep the game even towards the latter part of the set. However, the Cavaliers regained their footing and won the set 26-24. The teams were even throughout most of the third set, but the Storm were unable to pick up the set, dropping the contest 3-0.
Jamie Hoppe (Green Springs, Ohio/Clyde) led the Storm with 14 kills and two digs. Molly Richardson (Fort Wayne, Ind./Bishop Dwenger) added seven kills. Freshman Kathryn Ferry (Lima, Ohio/Lima Central Catholic) led the team with nine digs, while sophomore Samantha Knepley (Munith, Mich./Stockbridge) added six.
Devin Hummel and Julianne O'Donnell combined for 29 kills and 20 digs for the Cavaliers.
The Storm return home on Tuesday to host GLIAC opponent Ashland University (18-6, 8-5 GLIAC) at 7 pm in the Jerome T. Osborne Family Athletic and Wellnes Center.
