PAINESVILLE, OHIO – The visiting University of Findlay overcame early deficits in the first two sets and then held off a valiant Lake Erie College volleyball team comeback bid in the third set en route to a straight sets Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) win over the Storm Friday night (Nov. 9) to spoil Senior Night at the Jerome T. Osborne Family Athletic & Wellness Center.
Lake Erie (3-23, 0-17 GLIAC) scored the first three points of the night but couldn't ride that early momentum as the Oilers (12-16, 9-8 GLIAC) pulled away with a 10-2 run and took the first set 25-16. The Storm again jumped out 2-0 in set two before the Oilers got going. This time it was a 10-2 run that ignited Findlay to take the set 25-14.
The third set saw the Oilers take the lead before the Storm fought back for an 10-8 lead. Findlay pulled back ahead by four at 15-11 but again Lake Erie came back and knotted things up at 15-15. The Oilers, however, scored five of the next six points to go up 20-16 and kept the Storm at a distance the rest of the way to close out the contest 25-20.
Findlay was led by Maggie Naayers and Lindsy Reindel with 10 kills each while Samantha Granger added nine kills and seven digs. Amanda Calhoun set up the attack with 34 assists.
The Storm closes out the 2012 season on Saturday afternoon with a home contest against Wayne State University at 2 p.m.
