MARQUETTE, Mich.-- The Lake Erie College volleyball team headed north to the Upper Peninsula for its first Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) road game of the season, but were unsuccessful against Northern Michigan University, falling to the Wildcats in straight sets (25-14, 25-19, 25-12).
The Storm (0-7, 0-3 GLIAC) and Wildcats (9-3, 3-0 GLIAC) traded points back and forth in the first set until the Wildcats went on a 8-3 run to take a 17-11 and did not look back, taking the first set 25-14.
The second-set started in a similar fashion. The Wildcats gained a small advantage but the Storm hung tough. However, the Wildcats outscored the Storm 6-3 late in the set, winning 25-19.
Walter and Richardson combined for five kills in the second-set. Samantha Knepley (Munith, Mich./Stockbridge) and Walter had two digs apiece.
In the third set, Northern Michigan gained momentum early on and rode it to 25-12 win in the set to close out the match.
Walter ended the game with a team-high nine kills and two aces and four digs. Richardson and Sara Aultz (Wooster, Ohio/Orrville) combined for 13 kills- seven and six respectively.
Lina Lopes led Wildcats with 13 kills while Alex Barger had a game-high eight digs
The Storm conclude their trip to the Upper Peninsula on Saturday (Sept. 28), facing GLIAC foe Michigan Technological University.
