PAINESVILLE, Ohio— The Lake Erie College women's volleyball team played host to 20th-ranked Ferris State University Saturday (Oct. 12), falling to the Bulldogs in straight sets (25-11, 25-15, 25-16).
The Bulldogs jumped out to a 15-8 advantage in the first set, leading to a Storm timeout. The timeout did not halt the Bulldogs momentum, as they went on a 5-1 after and eventually closed out the set 25-11.
The Storm kept pace with the Bulldogs early in the second set but an 8-0 Ferris State run put them in front 16-8 en route to a 25-15 set win.
Once again in the third set, the Storm matched the Bulldogs early on until a 7-0 run put the Bulldogs in front 21-14. Following a Storm timeout, the Bulldogs continued to roll and closed the set and match, 25-16.
Samantha Knepley (Munith, Ohio/Stockbridge) and Jamie Hoppe led the Storm with five kills apiece while Molly Richardson (Fort Wayne, Ind./Bishop Dwenger) and Sara Aultz (Wooster, Ohio/Orrville) had four each. Richardson also led the team with nine digs.
Alexis Huntey led the Bulldogs with 10 kills and Brandie Merren had a game-high 14 digs.
The Storm return to the home court Tuesday (Oct. 15), looking to avenge an early season loss to Urbana University.
