Storm Wraps Up Day One of GLVC/GLIAC Crossover

AURORA, Ill.—The Lake Erie College volleyball team was unable to pick up a point for the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) on day one of the annual GLVC/GLIAC Crossover Tournament, falling to Quincy University and the University of Illinois Springfield.

In match one, the Storm took set one against Quincy, 26-24, but was unable to close out the match, falling prey to the Hawks 3-1 (24-26, 25-14, 25-8, 25-22).

Mary Walter (Solon, Ohio/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) led the Storm with 13 kills, while adding 10 digs. Molly Richardson (Fort Wayne, Ind./Bishop Dwenger) and Sara Aultz (Wooster, Ohio/Orrville) had 12 and eight kills respectively.  Kathryn Ferry (Lima, Ohio/Lima Central Catholic) tied the match-high with 12 digs.  Samantha Knepley (Munith, Mich./Stockbridge) had 37 assists.

Carly Schmitt had eleven kills and Sommer Holder had 12 digs to lead Quincy.

In the second match of the day, the Storm fell in straight sets to Illinois-Springfield (25-8, 25-19, 25-11). 

Richardson and Aultz led the Storm with four kills apiece. Jamie Hoppe (Green Springs, Ohio/Clyde) added three kills and seven digs. Ferry had a team-high eight digs. 

Kellee Mahaffay and Ashley Beaton had nine kills apiece and Kayla Katarzynskyi had 14 digs to led Illinois-Springfield.

The Storm play one game tomorrow against Saint Joseph's College of Indiana.
