Storm Stifled by Ashland

PAINESVILLE, Ohio-- The Lake Erie College volleyball team was unsuccessful against Ashland University in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) contest Tuesday (Nov. 5), falling to the Eagles in straight sets (25-22, 25-11, 25-16). 

The Storm gained momentum early in the opening set, winning the first two points but the Eagles recovered and slowly built a lead. The Storm rallied back to keep it even until Ashland slowly pulled away at the end, taking the set 25-22. 

Four storm players had two kills apiece. In addition to two kills, Mary Walter (Solon, Ohio/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) had two aces. 

The Eagles mounted 14-4 lead in the second set off the serving of Casey Clark en route to a 25-11 set win. 

Destiny Prusky (Newton Falls, Ohio/Newton Falls) and Walter had two kills in the second set. Jamie Hoppe (Green Springs, Ohio/Clyde) had three digs. 

The Storm scored the first two points in the third set but Ashland responded with a 7-0 run. The Storm rallied late in the set but was ultimately unable to overcome the Eagles early lead as Ashland wrapped up the match with a 25-16 third set win.

Walter ended the game with a match-high 11 kills and a team-high three aces. Hoppe ended the game with seven digs. 

Three Eagles had five or more kills for the match.

The Storm return to the court Friday (Nov. 8), traveling to Ohio Dominican University for a GLIAC contest.
