Quartet committed: Storm announces four LEC-bound prep standouts

PAINESVILLE, Ohio -- Storm Head Coach Andy Riesenberg announced Tuesday that four players have made commitments to continue their careers at Lake Erie.

Bethany Fisher, MacKenzie Honn, Graesyn Pawlak and Madison Russell will be Lake Erie-bound next fall, and all four have garnered impressive accolades over their prep careers.

"I feel we have added athleticism, toughness and court presence," said Riesenberg, "and we've done so in the forms of four young ladies who will be great teammates with a passion for volleyball."

Fisher is a 6-foot-2 middle blocker from Orville, Ohio. The daughter of Karen Covington and Ron Fisher earned three letters at Dalton High School and was a First Team All-Wayne County Athletic League performer and All-Ohio honorable mention as a senior (2013).

Honn is a 6-foot Cincinnati native who was a four-year starter and three-time team MVP for Anderson High School. The daughter of Scott and Gigi Honn was tabbed as a first team all-conference performer in each of the last three seasons (Fort Ancient Valley Conference in 2011, Eastern Cincinnati Conference in 2012, 2013).

Pawlak is a 5-foot-7 libero from Perrysburg, Ohio. Playing for Perrysburg Head Coach Jamie Babcock, Pawlak earned Second Team All-Northern Lakes League honors as a senior (2013). She also received multiple All-NLL and all-district academic awards in her high school career.

Russell hails from Westerville, Ohio, where she was a three-year starter and standout for the Westerville South Wildcats. The daughter of Al and Jodi Russell set career and single-season hitting records for the Wildcats and was selected as an All-Ohio Capital Conference First Teamer in both 2012 and 2013.

"We're excited about bringing in quality individuals like this," said Riesenberg. "These are four talented players from good programs, and I can't wait to see them develop even more at the next level."

PLAYER PROFILES …

Bethany Fisher (6-2, MH | Orrville, Ohio – Dalton HS)
Middle hitter … earned Wayne County Athletic League honorable mention as a sophomore (2011) and was an All-WCAL First Teamer in junior (2012) and senior (2013) campaigns … tabbed as an All-Ohio honorable mention in 2013 … has played at club level for the Kidron Volleyball Club … also earned DHS letters in track & field.

LEC Head Coach Andy Riesenberg: "Bethany is a very gifted athlete. With her size and athleticism, we feel she can be dominant presence in the front row. We can see her entering the program and making an immediate impact, and she is also the type of player that will attract other solid players with her easy-going personality."

MacKenzie Honn (5-11, OH | Cincinnati, Ohio – Anderson HS)
Led Anderson Redskins in kills in each of the last three seasons (2011, 2012, 2013) … named Ohio Southwest Area Best Player in 2011, 2012 and 2013 … AHS team MVP in three seasons (2011-13) … tabbed as an All-Cincinnati third teamer in 2012 and second teamer in 2013 … played two years of club volleyball with the Cincinnati Peppers and two years with the Cincinnati Classics.

LEC Head Coach Andy Riesenberg: "Mac will be an excellent addition to our program.  Her 6-foot frame and fast arm will bring an advantage but more importantly, she will bring a better all-around court presence: she is just as good in the back row as she is in the front."

Graesyn Pawlak (5-7, DS | Perrysburg, Ohio – Perrysburg HS)
Earned four letters for Head Coach Jamie Babcock and the Perrysburg Yellow Jackets … earned Second Team All-Northern Lakes League honors and an all-district honorable mention as a senior (2013) … was an All-NLL honorable mention as a junior (2012) … received multiple All-NLL and all-district academic awards in her high school career … six-year member of the Premier Volleyball Academy, a program that placed 11th at the Amateur Athletic Union national tournament in 2013 … member of a two-man team that placed third at the 2013 AAU beach nationals.

LEC Head Coach Andy Riesenberg: "Graesyn comes to us from tremendous high school and club programs. She is very well-trained and will bring the intangibles of discipline and a solid work ethic.  We are hopeful that her rapid assimilation of the game will be contagious as we continue to grow and get better every day."

Madison Russell (5-11, OH | Westerville, Ohio – Westerville South HS)
Team co-captain for the Westerville South Wildcats in 2012 and 2013 (named team MVP in both seasons) … three-year starter in high school … set career and single-season hitting records for the Wildcats and was selected as an All-Ohio Capital Conference First Teamer in both 2012 and 2013 … also led WSHS in block and dig figures in both 2012 and 2013 … earned second-team all-district nod as a senior … earned Varsity Scholar Athlete award in 2013… member of the North Central Select Volleyball Club.

LEC Head Coach Andy Riesenberg: "Madison is a hard worker who is going to get better and better over her time here at Lake Erie. She brings depth to the outside hitter position and a heavy reliable arm.  We are hopeful that she will continue to push others around her to get better."
