Storm Volleyball Adds Pair to Recruiting Class

PAINESVILLE, Ohio—Lake Erie College head volleyball coach Andy Riesenberg has announced the signing of two players for the upcoming 2014 season.

Sidney Fletcher and Asya Hobbs will join four other newcomers as members of the Storm volleyball team when they open play in September.

"I am very excited that Asya and Sidney have decided to join our family," said Riesenberg. "The potential the two of them bring in all parts of the game as well as off the court will add something very special as we continue to build our new culture with tremendous athletes and more importantly, tremendous character."

Sidney Fletcher, a 5-7 defensive specialist, joins the Storm from Saline, Mich.  Fletcher served as captain of the Saline Hornets and played on the top Huron Valley Volleyball Club team for five years as an outside hitter and a libero. 

Asya Hobbs, a 5-10 outside hitter, joins the Storm from Lynwood, Illinois.  Hobbs was a three-year letterwinner at Bishop Noll in Indiana where she led the state in blocks and helped led her team to the runner-up position at the state championships.

Sidney Fletcher (5-7, DS l Saline, Mich.- Saline High School)

Captain of the Saline Hornets...four-year member of the school's honor roll...editor of the school's yearbook and a member of DECA...volunteer for the Special Olympics...played five years of club volleyball for the Huron Valley Volleyball Club on the top team as a outside hitter for three years and a libero for two.

Coach Riesenberg on Fletcher: "Sidney is a solid volleyball player that doesn't make a lot of mistakes, she is not flashy or in your face, she simply does what is asked and does it well. She will add an entire other element to our passing and ball control"

Asya Hobbs (5-10, OH l Lynwood, Illinois- Bishop Noll)

Three-year letterwinner at Bishop Noll and senior-year captain...two-time team MVP...finished as the block leader in Indiana...two-time All-Conference and 2013 All-Area selection...helped Bishop Noll finish as the state runner-up in 2013...participated in the 2013 North All-Star Game...played club volleyball for Elite Volleyball Club, serving as captain for two years and earning a team MVP award...also a member of the Bishop Noll track team as a high jumper and sprinter...earned four letters and was captain for two years...earned three All-Conference selections..2012 All-Area Honorable Mention...Second-Team All-Area and state qualifier in 2013.

Coach Riesenberg on Hobbs: "Asya is a phenomenal multi-sport athlete who has not even scratched the surface of her volleyball potential.  Her athleticism will help her contribute immediately and nurture her into a great volleyball player.  We are also excited to be able to offer her the opportunity for her to compete in track and field at the college level."
