PAINESVILLE, Ohio—The Lake Erie College volleyball team picked up their first Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) win of the season Saturday (Oct. 3) in straight sets against Lake Superior State University.

The Storm won the sets 25-10, 25-22 and 25-16.

In the opening set, the Storm jumped out to a 4-0 lead.  Trailing 9-5, the Lakers called a timeout to try to squelch the Storm momentum.  The timeout failed to do so as the Storm one seven-of-eight points immediately following.  After the second timeout, the Storm wrapped-up the set, 25-10.

Madison Russell (Westerville, Ohio / Westerville South) and Crystal Kedroske (Dexter, Ohio/Dexter) led the Storm with four kills apiece.  Brittany Levkulich (Perry, Ohio/Perry) had four digs.

The teams exchanged points throughout the second with neither team finding a distinct advantage until the Lakers pulled ahead, 17-14. After calling a timeout, the Storm pulled within one, 20-19.  The Storm took the lead at 22-21, bringing about a Laker timeout.  Following the timeout, the Storm closed out the set, 25-22.

Leondra Barrett (Chattanooga, Tenn./Ooltewah) led the Storm with six kills in the set.  Levkulich had four digs.

The Storm's momentum carried over to the third set, taking a 6-0 lead. The Lakers slowly mounted a comeback, pulling within five, 20-15, but the Storm secured the set, 25-16, to win the match.

Offensively, the Storm was led by Barrett who had a match high 13 kills.  In addition to Barrett, Russell had double digit kills with 10 in the match.  Defensively, the Storm was led by Levkulich who had a team high nine digs.  Kedroske also pitched in on defense as she tallied eight digs in the match.

The Storm is back in action next Friday (Oct. 9), playing host to Grand Valley State University.
