Storm Drops Two Matches at Clarion Tournament

CLARION, Pa- The Lake Erie College volleyball opened the 2016 season at the Tony Banner Memorial Tournament at Clarion University on Friday (Sept. 2). Lake Erie dropped both matches played against Gannon University and the host, Clarion University.

In  the first match of the day, Lake Erie fell behind two sets to none and came back to force a fifth set against Gannon. The Golden Knights defeated the Storm 3 sets to 2 (16-25, 21-25, 25-23, 25-19, 14-16). The Storm was led by Brooke Peiffer (Lansing, Mich. /Holt), who piled up a match-high 14 kills along with 17 digs. Crystal Kedroske (Dexter, Mich. /Dexter) had 11 kills and 12 digs on defense for the Storm. Alexis Thomas (Cincinnati, Ohio/Fairfield) was key on defense as she had 13 digs in the match. Courtney Stedman (Mount Prospect, Ill. /Hersey) had nine kills and seven digs.

Playing against the host of the tournament, Clarion, the Storm won the first set before dropping the next three sets. Lake Erie dropped the second match of the day 3-1 (28-16, 20-25, 21-25, 17-25). Kedroske led the offense with a match-high 13 kills, plus she helped on defense with ten digs of her own. Peiffer added 12 kills and 16 digs in the nightcap. Sidney Fletcher (Saline, Mich. /Saline) finished with 15 digs in the final match of the day. Bethany Fisher (Orrville, Ohio/Dalton) killed the ball ten times for the Storm.

Lake Erie will conclude the opening weekend in Clarion with a match against the Cedarville Yellow Jackets on Saturday (Sept. 3). Cedarville is 0-2 after the Yellow Jackets dropped the first two matches of the tournament.
