Storm Defeats Ohio Valley For Sixth Straight Win

PAINESVILLE, Ohio- The Lake Erie College volleyball team concluded a four match homestand on Saturday (Sept. 16) afternoon with a matchup against the Ohio Valley Fighting Scots.

Lake Erie improved to 9-3 overall and 3-0 in Great Midwest play with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-15, 25-13) sweep over Ohio Valley. The Storm have won six straight matches.

Bethany Fisher (Orrville, Ohio / Dalton) had three of the Storm's first four points as Lake Erie took a 4-2 lead early in the first set. Lake Erie continued to expand the lead to 10-4 as Courtney Rosebrook (Deshler, Ohio / Patrick Henry) forced an Ohio Valley timeout with a kill. Fisher gave the Storm a nine point lead late in the set with a kill. Ohio Valley cut the lead to four but the Storm used two kills by Fisher to win the first set 25-19.

The Fighting Scots came out of the second set with a 6-2 run. Lake Erie responded with a 10-2 spurt that was capped by two consecutive service aces from Alexis Thomas (Cincinnati, Ohio / Fairfield). Ohio Valley took a timeout as the Storm regained a 12-8 lead. The Fighting Scots trimmed the lead to 14-13 but then Lake Erie jumped ahead with a 6-1 rally. The Storm closed out the second set with five of the next six points for a 25-15 set two win.

Fisher opened the third set with two kills as the Storm started with a 3-0 lead. Ohio Valley slimmed the lead to one before the Storm began to push the Fighting Scots away with back-to-back kills from Crystal Kedroske (Dexter, Mich. / Dexter) and Thomas. The back-to-back kills made it 15-7 in favor of the Storm. Lake Erie led by as many as 12 as the Storm swept the match with a 25-13 set three victory.

Fisher led all players with 17 kills in the match. Lexi Lombardo had six kills for the Storm. Thomas had 17 assists and four service aces. Sidney Fletcher (Saline, Mich. / Saline) added ten digs on defense for Lake Erie. Shannon Holsinger (Roanoke, Va. / Cave Spring) had two solo blocks and two block assists.

The Storm returns to the court on Tuesday (Sept. 19) at Ursuline College.
