Storm Completes Sweep of Panthers

OWENSBORO, Ky. - The Lake Erie College women's volleyball team resumed the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) schedule with a road matchup against the Kentucky Wesleyan College Panthers.

The Storm improved to 18-7 overall and 8-3 in the conference with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-13 25-23) victory over the Panthers.

The Panthers opened the first set with a 7-4 lead before the Storm tied the set at eight with a 4-1 run. Following a Sidney Fletcher (Saline, Mich. / Saline) ace that gave the Storm a 12-11 lead. The Storm pushed the lead to three with a kill by Courtney Rosebrook (Deshler, Ohio / Patrick Henry), forcing the Panthers to take a timeout. Lake Erie pushed the lead to six as Bethany Fisher (Orrville, Ohio / Dalton) ended the first set with a kill. Lake Erie took set one 25-19.

The Storm pulled away with a 4-1 run early after a 2-2 tie. With a 6-3 lead, Lake Erie exited the Panthers timeout with a 5-1 run. Lake Erie pushed the advantage to seven at 11-4. The Storm extended the lead to as many as eight throughout the set. Lake Erie scored six of the final seven points to win the second set 25-13.

Kentucky Wesleyan opened the third set with the lead as the Panthers led by three multiple times. Trailing 10-7, Lake Erie took advantage of some Panthers errors on a 5-0 run as Lake Erie took a 12-10 lead. An 8-3 Storm run pushed the Storm advantage to 20-13, capped by a block from Lexi Lombardo (Olmsted Falls, Ohio / Olmsted Falls) and Brooke Peiffer (Lansing, Mich. / Holt). Kentucky Wesleyan used a 10-2 run as the Panthers took a 23-22 lead. Fisher and Alexis Thomas (Cincinnati, Ohio / Fairfield) each had kills as Fisher and Rosebrook combined on a block for a final 3-0 run. Lake Erie won the third set 25-23.

Peiffer tied for the team lead in kills and digs as she had eight kills and 13 digs. Fisher added eight kills, including four in the third set. Shannon Holsinger (Roanoke, Va. / Cave Spring) had seven kills. Hallie Zumack (Independence, Ohio / Independence) had a team-high 15 assists as Thomas assisted on ten points. Fletcher had three service aces and 13 digs on defense.

The Storm will return to the court on Saturday (Oct. 21) afternoon with a road matchup at Trevecca Nazarene at 2:00 PM Eastern.
