PAINESVILLE, OHIO - On a soaked and muddy course at the Methodist Theological School and Delaware Golf Club, the Lake Erie College women's cross country team placed 38th overall at the annual All-Ohio Intercollegiate Championships on Friday (Oct. 2). The Storm's point total of 1,169 is its best ever.
Sophomore Carrie Crews (Chardon, Ohio/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) was Lake Erie's top runner, finishing the 5K course in 22:43.2 for 204th place out of 285 runners. Freshman Leah Jones (Maple Heights, Ohio/Maple Heights) just missed besting 23 minutes, coming in at 23:07.7, good for 217th place.
That duo was followed by sophomore Allison Wright (Columbus, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) at 23:28.6, sophomore Kyle Herron (Perry, Ohio/Perry) at 24:23.1, freshman Sammie Smith (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) at 24:51.4 and freshman Rachel Nypaver (Parma Heights, Ohio/Valley Forge) at 24:56.3.
Ohio State won the event, which features teams from every school in Ohio in every division and affiliation (NCAA and NAIA), with a team score of 58. Miami University was second with 75. The Storm placed 11th of 12 among comparable schools (Division II/NAIA).
The team is off until Oct. 16 when it competes in the Wilmington Fall Classic at Wilmington College.
