PAINESVILLE, OHIO - Junior Kyle Griffith (Painesville, Ohio/Harvey/Capital) shattered the school record in the men's race at the Walsh University Ric Sayre Invitational in Canton today (Sept. 12), leading the Lake Erie cross country team with a 10th place individual finish.
Griffith finished the 8K course in 27:06, destroying the previous mark of 28:48. Freshman Devin O'Neill (Concord, Ohio/Mentor) also bested the old mark, coming in at 28:34, good for 29th place.
Fellow freshmen Craig Gerber (Fremont, Ohio/Clyde) and David Gobrogge (Akron, Ohio/Green) also posted personal bests. Gerber clocked in at 28:55 (35th place) and Gobrogge finished in 31:!3 (66th).
Freshman Cody Lancaster (Eastlake, Ohio/Eastlake North), running unattached, finished 18th in 27:20, the second fastest time by a Lake Erie runner. However, because he was competing unattached, his score was not included in the team tally.
On the women's side, sophomore Allison Wright (Columbus, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) was the top finisher, completing the course in 21:17, placing 40th individually. Classmate Carrie Crews (Chardon Ohio/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) and freshman Leah Jones (Maple Heights, Ohio/Maple Heights) were close behind at 21:27 and 21:33, respectively.
The teams are next in action on Sept. 26 at the Edinboro
University Rag Relays.
