Storm Run at All-Ohio Championships
CEDARVILLE, OHIO – The Lake Erie College track and field teams competed in the annual All-Ohio Championships on Saturday (Sept. 29) at Cedarville University. The Storm men placed 36th of 44 teams overall, finishing ninth among all Division II/NAIA schools. The women were 35th overall, 10th in DII/NAIA.
Freshman Nick Hall (Stow, Ohio/Stow-Munroe Falls) led the way for the men, finishing 30th in the DII/NAIA race in 26:11.65. He was 75th overall among all 301 runners in the championship race. Redshirt junior Cody Lancaster (Eastlake, Ohio/Eastlake North) placed 35th in DII/NAIA and 98th overall with a time of 26:27.97.
They were the only two Storm runners in the top 50 in DII/NAIA. Senior Craig Gerber (Fremont, Ohio/Clyde) placed 51st with a time of 27:32.32. Senior David Gobrogge (Akron, Ohio/Green) and freshman David Thorne (Mentor, Ohio/Lake Catholic) rounded out the LEC contingent with times of 30:31.09 and 30:38.10, respectively.
Junior Shanita Fluker (Flint, Mich./Southwestern) was the top finisher on the women's side, placing 48th in DII/NAIA with a time of 20:41.94. Her time was 165th overall among 298 total runners.
Freshman Karissa Burns (Delphos, Ohio/Lincolnview) was close behind, placing 52nd with a time of 21:01.88. Senior Sammie Smith (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) was next at 21:51.21, followed by classmate Leah Jones (Maple Heights, Ohio/Maple Heights) in 22:02.93 and freshman Melanie Forget (Shanty Bay, Ont./Eastview Secondary) in 23:28.15.
The Storm is idle until Oct. 20 when they compete at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships in Midland, Mich.
