Storm Men Finish 9th at GLIAC Championships

MILFORD, Mich.—The Lake Erie College cross country teams competed at the 2015 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships Saturday (Oct. 24) in Milford, Michigan, hosted by Wayne State University.

Brandon Green (Eastlake, Ohio/North) had the top finish for the Storm, placing 22nd with a time of 25:33.  That time is the program's best finish all-time in the 8k, besting the previous record by a second. Dalton Graham (Gomer, Ohio/Columbus Grove) finished the race in 27th with a time of 25:43.6.  Vince Horning (Stow, Ohio/Stow) finished the race in 25:53.2 to place 36th.  Jordan Pritchard (Painesville, Ohio/Lake Catholic) placed 57th with a time of 26:23.1. Logan Ebersole (Chesterville, Ohio/Highland) rounded out the Storm men's top-five in 79th with a time of 27:07.

The top-five for the Storm men combined to finish in ninth place.  The finish was the best for the men in program history at the meet, with their previous best finish of 11th coming back in 2013.  The average time of the top-five, 26:08, was the best in program history by four seconds.

"I couldn't be any more proud of our men's team, said Storm Head Coach Grant Lofdahl. "They've bought in to what we're trying to build with this program, and they left it all out there on the course today. Brandon, Dalton and Vince ran very smart and moved up throughout the race. Very savvy races from those three guys. Brandon really earned that school record, as this was a tough, challenging course. Our younger guys stepped up in a big way, especially Jordan Pritchard and Wade Elmore. To break the school for average 8K time for our top-5 on a course like this, with the youngest team in the conference, I can't say enough about their effort. It gives us great momentum heading into regionals, track season, and next year."

Taylor Ritchie (Salem, Ohio/United Local) had the top finish for the Storm women, placing 89th with a time of 25:47.9.  Gina Henley (Akron, Ohio/Akron) finished shortly after Ritchie in 91st with a time of 26:02.3.  Aleea Volkman (Wauseon, Ohio/Wauseon) placed 96th with a time of 26:27.4.  Aneesa Volkman (Wauseon, Ohio/Wauseon) finished the race in 26:30.6 to place 96th.  Catherine Biesel (Geneva, Ohio/Geneva) rounded out the top-five for the Storm women in 99th place with a time of 26:40.9.

"It was a tough day for the women's team, competing against the best teams in the country," commented Lofdahl.  "The course was difficult and we had some health issues, but I'm proud of how they competed. Taylor Ritchie and Gina Henley once again did an excellent job leading the team, and Catherine Beisel stepped up in a big way when her team needed it. We'll assess some things and we'll bounce back at regionals."

The Storm is back in action Nov. 7, competing in the Regional Championships at Evansville, Ind.
