PAINESVILLE, Ohio - Lake Erie College women's basketball student-athlete Kayla Gabor (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) and Storm Wrestler Nick Vandermeer (Clarkston, Mich / Clarkston) were named the Lake Erie SAAC Student-Athletes of the Month for their performances in the month of December.
Gabor is the leading scorer in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (GLIAC) as she averages 19.8 points per game. In the Storm's final game of 2016 Gabor eclipsed the 1,000 point plateau. She is the ninth member of the Storm to reach 1,000 points. Gabor was also named the USBWA Division-II National Player of the Week.
Vandermeer is currently the top rated wrestler in the Midwest region. He ranks ninth nationally and has been instrumental in helping the Storm become the 15th ranked team in the nation. Vandermeer has only lost to one person at the Division-II level this season. He is coming off of a third place finish at the Midwest Classic and will look to continue his strong start to the season when he competes against Pitt-Johnstown on Friday (Jan. 13)
