ALLENDALE, MICH. --- Giancarlo Brugnoni homered twice to lead host Grand Valley State University to an 8-1 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory over the Lake Erie College baseball team Sunday (April 21) at the Laker Baseball Field in Allendale.
Brugnoni led off the second inning with a solo home run to open the scoring then added a two-run shot in the fourth that gave the Lakes (22-12, 16-5 GLIAC) a 3-0 lead. Grand Valley State added two more runs in the fourth and broke the game wide open with a three-run fifth to go up 8-0.
Sophomore Aaron Lindgren (Willoughby, Ohio/Willoughby South) tripled and scored for the Storm (11-25, 8-15 GLIAC) in the eighth. Lindgren also singled in the game.
Anthony Campanella (5-3) allowed just one unearned run on five hits in eight innings for the Lakers to earn the win. He walked two and struck out seven. Logan Nordquist (Alliance, Ohio/Alliance) suffered the loss, allowing five runs on eight hits in five innings. He walked two and struck out three.
Brugnoni was one of four Lakers with at least two hits in the game. He and Stephen Claypool each scored twice.
The Storm will look to bounce back Tuesday, April 23, when they head east for a nonconference game in Erie, Pa. against Mercyhurst University.
