WIILIAMSTON, N.C. – The Lake Erie College baseball team began a three game series in Williamston, North Carolina against the Millersville University Marauders on Saturday (Feb. 24).
The Storm fell in game one 8-2 and dropped the nightcap 10-6.
Millersville opened the game with a single run in the first inning as they took a 1-0 lead.
Lake Erie tied the game in the top of the second with a run. Nigel Williams (Cincinnati, Ohio / La Salle) started the inning with a single and advanced to second base on a passed ball. Two batters later, Ryan Carver (Orange Park, Fla. / Oakleaf) tripled him home, tying the game.
The Marauders regained a 2-1 lead in the second inning. They added two runs in the sixth and four runs in the seventh for an 8-1 advantage.
The Storm took advantage of two errors in the eighth inning as they scored a run. Corbin Paxton (Sylvania, Ohio / Sylvania Northview) opened the inning with a single and he moved to second on an error. Two batters later, Paxton scored on an error by the centerfielder. Lake Erie stranded the bases loaded and could not muster any more runs.
Wes Birchmeier (Miamisburg, Ohio / Miamisburg) had two hits, including a double for Lake Erie.
David Lemasters (Cortland, Ohio / Lakeview) allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits in six innings. He walked one and struck out ten. Nick Dejesus (Amherst, Ohio / Amherst Steele) added a scoreless eighth inning.
The Marauders jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning before Lake Erie rallied to take the lead in the second.
Rees Rua (Amherst, Ohio / Amherst Steele) walked, moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on a RBI single by Trace Peterson (Medina, Ohio / Medina). Carver followed with a single. Blake Curry (Eaton, Ohio / Eaton) singled and advanced all the way to third on an error, as the error plated Peterson and Carver. Forrest Longeway (Cincinnati, Ohio / Walnut Hills) drove in Curry with a groundout to first. The Storm held a 4-1 lead in the second.
Millersville tied the game with three runs in the top of the fourth inning.
Lake Erie regained a 6-4 lead in the bottom half of the fourth. Carver walked with one out and moved to third on a single by Curry. Longeway scored two runners with a two-run single.
The Marauders scored five runs in the fifth and one in the sixth to complete a 10-6 win over the Storm.
Curry went three-for-three with two runs scored in the game. Longeway had two hits and drove in two runs. Carver walked twice and scored twice for the Storm.
The series will continue with a single nine inning game on Sunday (Feb. 25) at 11:00 AM in Williamston, NC.
