NORTH CANTON, Ohio – The Lake Erie College baseball team was in action today (April 18) as they were defeated by the Walsh University Cavaliers, 13-4.
The Cavaliers jumped out to an early lead as they scored two runs in the first and added a run in the top of the second inning, to grab a 3-0 advantage. After a scoreless third inning, Walsh added a run in the fourth and took a 4-0 lead. Lake Erie responded in the fifth to tie the game with three homeruns. Nathan Erzen (Brookpark, Ohio / Berea-Midpark) led off the inning as he hit a solo homerun to left center field. Later in the inning, Corbin Paxton (Sylvania, Ohio / Sylvania Northview) hit a solo homerun to centerfield. After Trace Peterson (Medina, Ohio / Medina) was hit by a pitch, Wes Birchmeier (Miamisburg, Ohio / Miamisburg) hit a two run homerun to left field to tie the game at four runs apiece. After a scoreless sixth inning, Walsh added four runs in the seventh and took an 8-4 edge. The Cavaliers tacked on four runs in the eighth and a run in the ninth to win the game 13-4.
Birchmeier had three of the Storm's seven hits, including a double and a homerun.
The Storm will travel to Indianapolis for a doubleheader on Thursday (April 19) against the Greyhounds, starting at 1:00 PM.
