EASTLAKE, Ohio- The Lake Erie College Storm, now 12-6 overall split in their first half of a Great Midwest Athletic Conference series between the Hillsdale College Chargers (12-18) this afternoon with final scores of 14-1, and a 6-1 win.
Ryan Middendorf started game one of the series for the Storm and entered today's contest with a record of 2-2. The junior righty got five innings of work, allowing six earned runs on seven hits, of which two were home runs, and four walks while additionally earning four strikeouts. Pitching in relief were Brad Curry and Peter Theodos.
The only Storm run of the first game came in the bottom of the third. Corbin Paxton and Sam Browning hit back-to-back singles. Back-to-back fielder's choice groundouts by Forrest Longeway and Nathan Birtley were able to move Browning to third base for Caleb Waller, who hit an RBI single.
The Storm came out looking like a brand new team in the second game, as senior RHP David Lemasters threw a complete game, allowing one run on four hits and four walks and earning seven strikeouts. The offense perked up for their ace of the pitching staff, giving six runs in support on eight hits. Caleb Waller went 2-2 with a walk, and Trace Peterson went 1-2 scoring one run himself with an RBI scored on a sacrifice fly. Jacob Lozinksi hit a double and scored a run. Nigel Williams had another dominating performance at the plate, going 2-4 with a 3 RBI double.
The Storm and Chargers will match up again tomorrow morning at Classic Park. Right now, both teams are 6-8 in the G-MAC. The first pitch of the first game is scheduled for 11am. Gates at Classic will open at 8:45 am.
