ELKINS, W.VA- The Lake Erie Storm finished their 2019 regular season this evening with a sweep of G-MAC foe, Davis & Elkins.
The first game finished with a final score of 5-3, scoring all five runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings. Errors committed by the Senators put runners in scoring position for Nathan Birtley and Trace Peterson who ended up driving runs in to start things off.
Freshman Cade Wendel earned his second win on the bump. Wendel allowed one earned run on three hits and four walks, earning four strikeouts. Ryan Lally, Tristan Mayer, and Peter Theodos pitched in relief. Pitching was dominant this weekend, as the staff earned 22 strikeouts today.
The Storm finished the 2019 season with an overall record of 27-20, with a conference record of 19-11. They were 8-6 at home, 14-12 on the road, and 5-2 when playing at a neutral site. Through 41 games, the offense scored 278 runs and had an average at the plate of .287, and got on base 37 percent of the time while boasting a slugging percentage of .433 with the help of 38 home runs.
Lake Erie heads into the Great Midwest Athletic Conference baseball tournament as the fourth seed on a 12-game win streak. The tournament will be held at Prasco Park, outside of Cincinnati, and games will begin on Wednesday after the conclusion of the 2019 Conference Awards Banquet that will be held on Tuesday night.
