Storm Looks for Third Straight Win When it Hosts ODU on Homecoming

PAINESVILLE, OHIO - Riding a two-game winning streak, the Lake Erie College football team looks for a school record third straight victory when it hosts Ohio Dominican University on Homecoming/Alumni Weekend.  Kickoff at Jack Britt Memorial Stadium in Painesville is set for 1 p.m.
Both the Storm and Panthers are coming off narrow victories last week. Lake Erie (3-2) rallied from a 21-0 deficit for a thrilling 29-28 overtime victory at Adrian College while Ohio Dominican (2-2) held off a late push from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh to win 31-29.

THE SERIES: This is the first meeting between the two schools.

THE BROADCAST: The game will be carried live on ESPN 970 (WFUN) and streamed online at www.espn970wfun.com as part of the Lake Erie Football Network with Craig Deas (play-by-play) calling the action.

THE COACHES: Mark McNellie (Baldwin-Wallace '88) is in his third season at Lake Erie, guiding the program since its inception as a club sport in 2007.  He has a varsity record of 6-10 and is 13-12 overall (including club season). Prior to being named head coach at Lake Erie on Aug. 9, 2006, McNellie was an assistant coach at Mercyhurst College for 17 years.
Dale Carlson is in his sixth season at Ohio Dominican. Since starting the program in 2004, he has an overall record of 31-26.  Before coming to Ohio Dominican, Carlson was the head coach at Tri-State (now Trine) University and also had head coaching stints at Taylor University and Lakeland College (Wisc.).  He has compiled an overall record of 105-102-3 in 26 seasons as a head coach.

LAST TIME OUT FOR LAKE ERIE: A gutsy call by Mark McNellie and a heads-up play by Sean Bedevelsky (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) capped an improbable 29-28 overtime victory for the Storm on Saturday night at Adrian College.  Lake Erie trailed at one point 21-0 before rallying to tie the game at 21-21 heading into overtime thanks to a 45-yard touchdown pass to Dave Romeo (Eastlake, Ohio/Eastlake North), two defensive stands and a blocked field goal at the gun by sophomore Josh Freeman (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor).  In the extra period, Adrian scored in six plays on the opening possession.  The Storm answered back on a 20-yard run by Bedevelsky, but after Sam Marcotte's (Chardon, Ohio/Chardon) extra point Adrian was flagged for running into the kicker.  McNellie chose to accept the penalty and go for the two-point conversion and the win.  Bedevelsky, who completed 20-of-39 for 296 yards and two touchdowns, initially bobbled the snap, but reversed course and ran around the left side for the winning points.  Demetrius Gray (Cleveland, Ohio/South) caught six passes for 71 yards and a touchdown while Tony Howard (Garfield Heights, Ohio/Garfield Heights/Kent State) added 62 yards and a touchdown on the ground.  Kevin Chapman (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson) led the defense with 10 tackles.

LAST TIME OUT FOR OHIO DOMINICAN: The Panthers led 31-13 in the fourth quarter but had to hold off a furious rally by the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh for a 31-29 road victory.  Tyler Purcell rushed for 148 yards in the win and Billy Griffin threw for 192 yards and two touchdowns to Kyle Reichelderfer.  Ohio Dominican outgained the Titans 503-354 in the contest.

QUICK SLANTS: With a win, Lake Erie would surpass its win total from its inaugural season... a win would also set a record for longest winning streak (3)... both Lake Erie and Ohio Dominican will join the GLIAC next season and will be regular foes... Lake Erie is 3-4 all-time at Jack Britt Memorial Stadium, including a 1-0 mark this year.

UP NEXT: After a week at home, the Storm returns to the road for the fourth time in five weeks next Saturday, Oct. 10, at the Apprentice School in Newport News, Va.  Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
