Storm Looks For Second Straight Win Saturday at West Liberty

PAINESVILLE, OHIO - Coming off one of the biggest victories in the program's young history, the Lake Erie College football team looks for its second straight win when it travels to West Liberty University on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009 to take on the Hilltoppers at 1 p.m. at Russek Field.

Both teams picked up their first wins of the season last week.  The Storm (1-1) defeated Fairmont State University in overtime at home, 27-24, while West Liberty (1-1) also notched a home victory by hammering Walsh University 48-17.

THE SERIES: This is the first meeting between the two schools.

THE BROADCAST: The game will be carried live on ESPN 970 WFUN AM and streamed online at www.espn970wfun.com as part of the Lake Erie Football Network with Craig Deas (play-by-play) calling the action.  In addition, West Liberty will have a live video broadcast of the game on its website at www.hilltoppersports.com.

THE COACHES: Mark McNellie (Baldwin-Wallace '88) is in his third season at Lake Erie, guiding the program since its inception as a club sport in 2007, and has posted a career varsity record of 4-9 (11-11 overall).  Prior to being named head coach at Lake Erie on Aug. 9, 2006, McNellie was an assistant coach at Mercyhurst College for 17 years.

LAST TIME OUT FOR LAKE ERIE: Sean Bedevelsky's (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) four-yard pass to Brandon James (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) in overtime gave the Storm a 27-24 victory over Fairmont State in the home opener at Britt Memorial Stadium last weekend.  It was Bedevelsky's third TD pass of the game and fourth TD total, having run one in from three yards out late in the first half.  Fairmont State had taken a 21-14 lead with just under two minutes to go before the Storm marched 64 yards in 48 seconds to tie the game.  The Falcons then kicked a 34-yard field goal on the first series of overtime before James' winning grab.  The Storm racked up 350 yards of offense in the win, including 222 through the air and 96 on the ground from senior RB Tony Howard (Garfield Heights, Ohio/Garfield Heights/Kent State).

LAST TIME OUT FOR WEST LIBERTY: The Hilltoppers put up 547 yards of total offense in a 48-17 victory over Walsh University in their home opener Saturday.  Kevon Calhoun rushed for 103 yards and a pair of TDs and Zach Amedro completed 25-of-36 passes for 358 yards and four scores.  Ryan Travis both caught and threw a TD pass in the win.

ON THE ROAD AGAIN: Lake Erie plays the second of three straight on the road next week (Sept. 19) at St. Joseph's College in Rensselaer, Ind.  Kickoff is set for noon CST (1 p.m. in Painesville) at Alumni Stadium.
