PAINESVILLE, OHIO -- Lake Erie College junior offensive lineman Mike Gritz (South Euclid, Ohio/Brush) was named to the East Coast Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division II Football All-Star Team on Friday (Jan. 14).
Earlier this offseason, Gritz was an honorable mention selection to the All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Team and was nominated for the Gene Upshaw Award which goes to the nation's top Division II lineman.
Gritz started every game at right tackle for the Storm. The Lake Erie offense ranked 23rd nationally in total offense and was in the top 25 for rushing offense for the second straight season.
This is the second straight year Lake Erie was represented on the ECAC All-Star Team. Punter Vince Hug was selected last year.
The ECAC is the nation's largest athletic conference and only multi-divisional conference, with approximately 300 member institutions and over 122,000 student-athletes ranging across 16 states from Maine to North Carolina and westerly to Illinois. Established in 1938 with 58 charter members, the ECAC has since emerged as the nationwide leader in service. The ECAC honors more than 2,000 student-athletes during the academic year through its all-star and player of the week programs. Each week, the conference has recognized 14 football players of the week, including offensive and defensive, in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS), Football Championship Subdivision (FCS), Division II, and Division III (Northeast, Northwest, Southeast, and Southwest Regions).
