PAINESVILLE, OHIO – The Lake Erie College football team had four players named to the 2011 OhioCollegeFootball.com All-Ohio NCAA FCS/II Team, including three players named to the first team. The announcement was made by the website on Thursday, Dec. 8.
Senior quarterback Sean Bedevelsky (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick), senior offensive lineman Mike Gritz (South Euclid, Ohio/Brush) and fifth-year senior wide receiver Brandon James (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) were named first-team All-OCF Offense while senior outside linebacker Kevin Chapman (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson) was a second-team All-OCF Defense pick.
All four players were earlier named to the All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Team. James was a second-team selection at receiver while the others received honorable mention.
On the season, James caught a school-record 72 passes for 879 yards with four touchdowns. He had three 100-yard receiving games and three others with over 80 yards.
Bedevelsky completed 186-of-289 passes for 2,179 yards with 13 touchdowns and just six interceptions. He also rushed for 535 yards, second on the team, with school-record 12 touchdowns. He had at least two touchdowns passing and rushing in each of the last three games.
Gritz started all 11 games at right tackle for the second straight year and the third year overall on the line starting every game. He was part of a group that paved the way for the Storm to be ranked in the top 50 nationally in rushing offense and total offense for the third straight season.
Chapman, who earlier in the season earned GLIAC and d2football.com Defensive Player of the Week honors for his performance in the win over Gannon University, led the team with 81 total tackles. He made 11 of those behind the line of scrimmage, including 5.5 sacks. He also forced two fumbles and recovered one.
The four players selected to the OCF All-Ohio Team are the most the Storm has had in the three years the website has been selecting all-star teams.
