PAINESVILE, Ohio- The Lake Erie College football team could not get the offense going as they fell to the Ohio Dominican University Panthers 45-7 on Saturday (Oct. 8) night at Jack Britt Memorial Stadium.
Lake Erie dropped to 0-6 overall and 0-6 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).
The Panthers opened the game with four touchdowns in the first quarter on their first four drives. Three of the touchdowns were on the ground. Ohio Dominican led 28-0 after one quarter.
The visitors added two more touchdowns, both times through the air, taking a 42-0 lead into the locker room.
Lake Erie opened the fourth quarter on a drive that ended with a touchdown. The Storm defense forced a three and out before taking over on a punt. Lake Erie's offense put together an 11 play, 74 yard drive that was capped by a passing touchdown from John Banyasz (Columbia Station, Ohio / Columbia) to Mitch Tilley (Oxford, Mich. / Oxford) from 11 yards out.
Following the touchdown, Ohio Dominican answered with a field goal to complete the scoring at 45-7.
As a team, Lake Erie totaled 260 yards on offense. 146 of them were through the air and 115 on the ground.
Banyasz finished the game with 8 completions for 71 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Javarian Smith (Pontiac, Mich. / Oakland Christian) went 4-for-4 with 75 yards passing.
Desmon Turner (Cedar Bluff, Ala. / Fort Payne) was the Storm's leading rusher as he rushed for 97 yards on 17 carries.
Tyler Hampton (Macedonia, Ohio / Macedonia) was the leading receiver as he made four catches for 41 yards.
Maurice Hale (Columbus, Ohio / Beechcroft) led the Storm defense with 11 total tackles, including six solo tackles. Nick Kirschner (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) made nine and Zach Jude (Canal Winchester, Ohio / Bloom Carroll) added eight for the defense.
Austin Baker (Clyde, Ohio / Clyde) converted one extra point and averaged 36 yards per punt.
The Storm will face the Ashland University Eagles next Saturday (Oct. 15) at home.
