PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie College football team will open the new era of Storm football behind first year Head Coach Gerald Hazzard on Saturday (Sept. 2) when they travel to battle with Edinboro at 12 p.m.
Coach Hazzard said "The team is very excited to start the season against Edinboro. They have been working hard all offseason and camp. It will be great to compete against one of the best teams in the region".
The Storm offense will be led by a pair of running backs in Desmon Turner (Cedar Bluff, Ala. / Fort Payne) and Antwan Harris (Youngstown, Ohio / Austintown Fitch). Turner was the second leading rusher for the Storm last season and averaged 4.2 yards per carry. Defensively, Lake Erie will be anchored by senior linebackers Zach Jude (Canal Winchester, Ohio / Bloom Carroll) and Nick Kirschner (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor). Jude led the Storm in tackles with 90 and Kirschner led the Storm in tackles for a loss with 4.5.
Coach Hazzard concluded "I expect our team to compete at a high level and bring a great amount of energy to the game. To get the win we will need to take care of the ball on offense and limit their passing game on defense. Winning the turnover battle will also be crucial".
Lake Erie will be back in action Saturday (Sept. 9) when they square off with Tiffin University in the home opener for the Storm.
