(PAINESVILLE, Ohio) – The Lake Erie College Athletic Department has announced that Gerald Hazzard will not return as the head coach of the Storm football team. Hazzard had been with the program since its inception in 2007 and the team's head coach since late in the 2016 season.
"We appreciate Coach Hazzard's commitment to our program from the beginning," said Director of Athletics Kelley Kish. "Just concluding our second season in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference, I am confident our next head coach will help us develop champions in the classroom, the community and on the field. Lake Erie Storm Football will ascend to a place where our fans, faculty, staff, alumni and community can take pride in our program."
During his time with the Storm, Hazzard has helped produce five All-Americans and 32 All-Conference players between years in the GLIAC and G-MAC. One of those players was Anthony Bilal who finished second in Division II with 2,092 yards and first with 29 touchdowns in 2014. As a result, Bilal finished third in the Harlon Hill Trophy voting as Division II's best player.
A national search for a new head coach will begin immediately.
