PAINESVILLE, OHIO – The Lake Erie College men's basketball team announced the signing of high school senior Steve Walczak out of Olentangy High School to a National Letter of Intent during the November signing period.
A first-team All-District and special mention All-Ohio Capital Conference selection, Walczak was named Olentangy team MVP as a junior. Walczak is ranked as the ninth-best center prospect in Ohio by Prep Spotlight.
At 6'10", Walczak is a true center and would currently be the tallest member of the Storm squad. His combination of size and athleticism is one of many things that stood out to Lake Erie Head Coach Cliff Hunt.
"Steve is an athletic big man who will excel in our program and style of play," said Hunt. "He plays really hard, runs the floor, has a great post game and is the kind of team-oriented player that we want in our program. Steve will make us better immediately and will challenge for quality playing time."
Walczak is also a standout in the classroom as a recipient of the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Scholarship Society Silver Certificate, given to players who demonstrate exemplary work in the classroom and high citizenship and sportsmanship.
