ASHLAND, Ohio – The Lake Erie College men's basketball team was in action today as they were defeated by Ashland, 93-73.
The Storm opened the scoring and took a 2-0 lead when Brogan Scott (Wadsworth, Ohio / Highland) hit a pair of foul shots. The game was a back and forth battle until the Eagles went on an 11-0 run and took a 15-7 lead, to force a Storm timeout with just under 15 minutes remaining in the half. Ashland extended their lead to 16 with a 9-0 run that was ended by the second media timeout of the half. The Eagles continued their strong play as they lead the Storm by 19 with under five minutes to play in the half. Lake Erie was unable to make up any ground and entered the half trailing the Eagles, 52-27.
At the half the Storm was led by Nick Wells (Akron, Ohio / St. Vincent-St. Mary) as he had a team high 11 points, on 4-5 shooting from the field. Ennis Thomas (Westerville, Ohio / Westerville South) led the Storm with three rebounds off the bench.
Out of the break the Storm came out ready to battle but they were unable to cut into the lead and trailed at the first media timeout of the second half. Midway through the second half the Storm went on a 6-0 run and cut into the Eagles lead. On the run Kyle Hagey (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) made a layup and Wells hit a three pointer for the Storm. The Storm continued to battle but the Eagles were able to hold off any runs as the Storm entered the final media timeout behind on the scoreboard. Lake Erie was unable to put together a run and fell, 93-73.
The Storm was led by Wells as he tied a career high with 19 points, on 3-4 shooting from behind the arc. Gabe Kynard (Toledo, Ohio / St. John's) also pitched in with 13 points. Thomas added nine points and five rebounds off the bench for the Storm.
Lake Erie will return to the hardwood Saturday (Feb. 11) when they host the University of Findlay on Cliff Hunt Appreciation Night.
