PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie College men's basketball team was in action today as they were defeated by the University of Findlay, 92-55. Sean Howard (Indianapolis, Ind. / Lawrence North) eclipsed the 1000 point mark in his career tonight.
Head Coach Kyle Conley said "We are extremely happy and proud of what Sean has accomplished on and of the court in his time at Lake Erie College".
The Storm opened the game on a quick 5-0 run behind Brogan Scott (Wadsworth, Ohio / Highland). Scott scored all five of the opening points for the Storm. The Oilers responded with a 12-0 run of their own to take a 12-5 advantage, which forced a Storm timeout. At the first media timeout of the half the Storm trailed 19-10. The game remained close as the teams battled through the middle of the first half and the Storm trailed, 22-15 with a little more than nine minutes remaining in the half. Out of the break the Oilers went on an 11-3 run and took a 33-18 advantage before a layup by Scott ended the run. The Oilers enter the final media timeout of the half ahead, 39-20. The Storm entered the intermission behind, 43-28.
At the half the Storm was led by Scott as he had 10 points, and five rebounds. Howard added seven points and two rebounds in the half for the Storm.
The Storm came out of the half ready to play but were unable to make any progress early in the half and trailed at the media timeout, 53-37. Findlay continued their strong shooting performance and entered the second media timeout up by 20. The Storm batted out of the timeout and tried to cut into the deficit but the Oilers quickly halted all the Storm runs and Lake Erie entered the final five minutes behind on the scoreboard. With just under three minutes remaining in the game Howard hit a three pointer and made a layup off of a steal. The five quick points from Howard gave him over 1,000 career points. The Storm was unable to overcome the deficit and fell, 92-55.
The Storm was led by Scott as he had 17 points, on 7-10 shooting from the field, and he had 9 rebounds. Howard added 13 points, four rebounds, and three assists for the Storm. Off the bench Mitch Loomis (Malvern, Ohio / Malvern) added 11 points and eight rebounds in 21 minutes of action.
Lake Erie will be back in action Thursday (Feb. 16) when they travel to take on Hillsdale with the game set to tip at 8 p.m.
