PAINESVILLE, OHIO - The Lake Erie College men's golf team moved up one spot in the team standings and had a pair of players finish in the top 30 on the second day of the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Invitational #1 Monday (Sept. 21) at Hawks Head Golf Course in South Haven, Mich.
For the second straight day sophomore Frank Whites (Wickliffe, Ohio/Wickliffe) shot a 2-over 74 to finish at 148 for the tournament. Junior C.J. Milo (Painesville, Ohio/Mentor) matched that overall score with a second-round 75 to tie Whites for 29th place overall.
As a team, the Storm posted a team score of 317-301-618, good for 19th place among the 24 competing teams.
Every Lake Erie golfer improved on the second day. Freshman Mike Guarino (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) tied for 97th at 82-78-163 while junior Mike Meyers (Painesville, Ohio/Riverside) tied for 104th at 87-76-163. Senior Steve Bragg (New Philadelphia, Ohio/New Philadelphia) rounded out the Storm contingent with a 86-82-168 for 113th place.
Wayne State won the team title with a two-day score of 573, three shots ahead of Ferris State. Northern Kentucky's Danny Lewis was the individual medalist with a 68-7-135 (-9).
The Storm returns to the links Sunday, Sept. 27, for the Mount Union Invitational.
