PAINESVILLE, OHIO - The Lake Erie College men's golf team is within striking distance of the top spot for the second straight tournament after the first round of the Vulcan Invitational hosted by California University (Pa.) on Sunday (Oct. ).
The Storm sits in seventh place with a team score of 300 on the par-71 Cedarbrook Golf Club Red Course and is just 17 strokes behind leader Indiana University of Pa. Lake Erie is just one stroke from a two-way tie for fifth.
Leading the way was sophomore Frank Whites (Wickliffe, Ohio/Wickliffe) with an opening round 2-over 73. Junior C.J. Milo (Painesville, Ohio/Mentor) was just one stroke behind him with a 74, tying him for 23rd place. Freshman Mike Guarino (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) shot a 75 and sits in a tie for 28th place.
Junior Mike Meyers (Painesville, Ohio/Riverside) and senior Steve Bragg (New Philadelphia, Ohio/New Philadelphia) rounded out the Storm contingent with a 78 and 79, respectively.
The second and final round will be played on the par-72 Gold Course on Monday.
