Storm Men Open Spring with 5th Place Finish at Union

PAINESVILLE, OHIO –  The Lake Erie College men's golf team opened the spring portion of its schedule with a fifth place finish at the Union College Bulldog Invitational that concluded on Tuesday (March 8) at Wasioto Winds Golf Course in Pineville, Ky.

As a team, the Storm's score of 654 was five strokes behind the University of Montreal (649) but well ahead of the three squads that finished behind LEC.  Walters State University won the team title with a two-round score of 609.

Senior C.J. Milo (Painesville, Ohio/Mentor) and sophomore Mike Guarino (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) shared individual low-scoring honors for Lake Erie as each finished at 85-77-162.

Junior Frank Whites III (Wickliffe, Ohio/Wickliffe) was close behind at 87-77-164 and classmate Matt Hennessey (Chardon, Ohio/Chardon) shot 83-83-166.

Sophomore Troy Hunter (Aurora, Ohio/Creswtood) rebounded from a 95 on day one with an 81 in the second round for a final score of 176.  Freshman Tyler Walters (Middlefield, Ohio/Cardinal) rounded out the Storm squad with an 87-88-175.

Union's Keith Tolley was the individual medalist with a 75-71-146.

The Storm is idel until April 1-2, when it will compete in the third NCAA Regional tournament of the year.
