Storm Facing Tough Competition at Midwest Fall Tourney

PAINESVILLE, OHIO – Junior Mike Guarino shot 4-over 76 to pace the Lake Erie College men's golf team on the first day of the NCAA Midwest Regional Fall Tournament Sunday (Sept. 25) at HawksHead Golf Course in South Haven, Mich.

As a team, the Storm scored 320 in the first round and are in 24th place in the 27-team event. However, just 10 strokes separate LEC from 15th place in the competitive field. The University of Indianapolis as the round one team lead at 290, six shots ahead of Northwood University.

Guarino and senior Matt Hennessey (Chardon, Ohio/Chardon) each shot sub-80 rounds. Guarino's 76 has him tied for 41st place in the 135-player field. Hennessey posted a 79 to tie for 74th place.

Indy's David Frank leads the individual scoring after a 5-under 67. He is two shots head of the field and was one of just three golfers who shot under par (72) in inclement conditions on Sunday.

The second round of the event will take place on Monday.
