Storm Men Struggle at Purgatory in Regional First Round

NOBLESVILLE, IND. – The Lake Erie College men's golf team sits in 24th place after 18 holes of the final NCAA Great Lakes Regional event of the year, posting a team score of 329 in the first round on Easter Sunday (April 8) at Purgatory Golf Club in Noblesville, Ind.

The Storm posted just one round under 80 as a team, a seven-over 79 by senior Frank Whites III (Wickliffe, Ohio/Wickliffe).  He is currently tied for 53rd-place individually.  Classmate Matt Hennessey (Chardon, Ohio/Chardon) is two strokes behind him at 81 and junior Mike Guarino (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) finished his round with a disappointing 82.

With the 125-man field battling windy conditions Sunday, Northern Kentucky University's Jones brown carded a two-under 70 to lead at the halfway point, while Tiffin Univeristy leads the team leaderboard with a 301 – just one shot ahead of Ashland University.

Lake Erie is four shots clear of 25th place St. Joseph's College (Ind.) and is only six shots out of a spot in the top 20.  Round two will be completed on Monday.
