PAINESVILLE, OHIO – The Lake Erie College men's lacrosse team scored the game's first goal, but host Seton Hill University scored the next six to take command en route to a 10-4 East Coast Conference victory Thursday afternoon (March 29).
Sophomore Keegan Bal (Coquitlam, B.C./Centennial Secondary) scored 4:25 into the contest to give the Storm (3-3, 1-2 ECC) a 1-0 lead. But five different Seton Hill (4-4, 2-3 ECC) players combined for the next six goals to give the Griffins a 6-1 halftime lead.
Lake Erie looked to mount a second-half comeback, as freshman Trevor Tarte (Amherstburg, Ontario/Kiski Prep) and sophomore Josh Becker (Salamanca, N.Y./Salamanca) each scored in the opening minutes of the third period to get the Storm within three at 6-3. The home team had an answer once again, however, as a 4-0 run by the Griffins stretching from the end of the third into the middle of the fourth put the game away and send the Storm to its second straight defeat.
Bal added a second goal with 1:18 left to end the Seton Hill run. He also had an assist for a three-point game. Sophomore goalkeeper Ian Wolfe (Bridgeville, Pa./Chariters Valley) made six saves.
Greg Chaples and Matt Delmonico each scored three goals for the Griffins while James Delaney had three assists. Christopher Isles made 10 saves in net to earn the win.
The Storm will look to get back on the winning track and put an end to its brief slide on Saturday, April 2, when it hosts Mercy College in an ECC contest at 1 p.m. at Jack Britt Memorial Stadium in Painesville.
