Lake Erie College (3-5, 1-4 ECC) was denied its first win over a ranked program as it fell to fifth-ranked Dowling College (7-2, 4-2 ECC), 14-6, in a East Coast Conference game on a rain soaked day in Painesville, Ohio at Jack Britt Memorial Stadium.
The early going was all Golden Lions as they scored five goals in the first quarter and the first eight goals into the game. Lake Erie finally got on the board at 6:42 of the second quarter when freshman MacGregor Johnston (Nanaimo, BC/Dover Bay) scored unassisted from 15 yards out. Dowling took a 10-1 advantage into halftime.
Lake Erie won the second half, 5-4, as it scored the first two goals of the half, and another three in a seven minute span in the third and fourth quarters.
Sophomore Keegan Bal (Coquitlam, B.C/Centennial Secondary) scored a pair of goals while Johnson and sophomore Kyle Larsen (Massillon, Ohio/Jackson) each had a goal and an assist. Sophomore Josh Becker (Salamanca, N.Y/Salamanca) and freshman Cody Holbrook (Columbus, Ohio/Olentangy Orange) scored other Lake Erie goals.
In a reserve role, sophomore Alexander Wisner (Sylvania, Ohio/Sylvania Northview) made five saves while allowing four goals.
Lake Erie returns to action Sunday at 3:00 p.m. with a home match vs. Otterbein that was rescheduled from early March.
