PAINESVILLE, Ohio-- The Lake Erie College men's lacrosse team took an early lead and did not look back as they defeated visiting, nonconference opponent Roberts Wesleyan College 10-5 Wednesday (April 10) in Painesville.

The game ended with 3:53 left to play in the fourth quarter due to lightning.

The Storm (7-2, 3-1) opened up the scoring when reigning ECAC Offensive Player of the Week Keegan Bal (Coquitlam, B.C./Centennial) scored an unassisted goal two minutes into the game. Reagan Harding (Sakatoon, SK/Bishop Jones Mahoney) followed up with two goals of his own to put the Storm ahead 3-0. Craig Petit scored the first goal for the Redhawks (3-8, 0-4 ECC) but Trevor Tarte (Amhertsburg, Ontario/Kiski Prep) answered with a Lake Erie goal to keep the lead at three. Seth Miller cut the lead to two once again for Roberts Wesleyan before back-to-back goals from Ryan Jurek (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) and Tarte gave the Storm a four goal lead at 6-2. Tyler Kleehammer added a third goal for the Redhawks to cut the lead to three at the half.

Lake Erie continued to outpace the Redhawks in the third quarter. Harding and Tarte scored the first two goals of the quarter for the Storm. After a Dom Cianfarano goal for Roberts Wesleyan, Joeyjohn French (Tully, N.Y./Tully) brought the score back up to 9-4. MacGregor Johnston (Nanaimo, B.C./Dover Bay) gave the Storm their largest lead of the evening, at six, with an early fourth quarter goal to make the game 10-4. Ian Nash brought the Storm lead down to 10-5 with an unassisted goal but it was not enough as the game was called early due to lightning.

Tarte and Harding led the Storm with three goals apiece. Johnston added one goal and two assists while Josh Becker (Salamanca, N.Y./Salamanca) had three assists. French ended the game with one goal and one assist. Jurek and Bal rounded out the scoring for Lake Erie and Matthew Curcio (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) had one assist.

Tom Lipomi (Hamburg, N.Y/Hamburg) picked up the win in net for the Storm, making 13 saves saves.

Matt Hamilton led the Redhawks in net, making 11 saves despite the loss.

The Storm are back in action Saturday, April 13, when they travel to North Canton, Ohio for an East Coast Athletic Conference (ECAC) contest against Walsh University.
