Storm Set For Showdown at Mercyhurst (PREVIEW)

STORM CONCLUDES REGULAR SEASON IN ECAC SHOWDOWN: The 14th-ranked Lake Erie College men's lacrosse team concludes the 2014 regular season at fourth-ranked Mercyhurst University.  The winner of the game will be named the ECAC regular season champion and will play host to the ECAC playoffs next weekend.

LAST TIME OUT: The Storm (8-3, 6-0 ECAC) defeated Walsh University 18-5 last Friday (April 18).  Reagan Harding led the Storm with five goals and one assist. Trevor Tarte and Mitchell Shafer had three goals, one assist apiece.  Austin Bishop had two goals, two assists for four points while Macgregor Johnston had one goal, two assists.  Louis Eron, Ryan Gibson, Matthew Redmond and Robert Pelkey had one goal apiece.  Senior Will Mulcahy had two assists while classmate Andrew Stockton had one. Justin Goodwin had a team-high nine groundballs in addition to two caused turnovers.  Senior Rashad Brown went an impressive 19-of-21 (90%) on faceoffs, picking up eight groundballs.  Seniors Adam Bakular and Tarte had four groundballs.

OPPOSITION POSITION: The Lakers are 11-2 this season and 5-1 in ECAC play.  In their most recent outing, they defeated Roberts Wesleyan College 13-3.  Brady Heseltine leads Mercyhurst with 42 points and 35 goals.  Jake McAndrew has a team-high 20 assists.  Michael Grace has made 70 saves in net this season.

SERIES HISTORY: Lake Erie is 0-6 all-time against Mercyhurst.  In their three meetings last year, two were decided by one goal margins.

STORM REPORT: After falling in their first three games, the Storm is on an eight-game winning streak.  Reagan Harding leads the Storm with 42 points on 28 goals, 14 assists. Trevor Tarte has netted a team-high 29 goals. Freshman Austin Bishop has 20 goals while Mitchell Shafer and Ryan Jurek have 18 and 17 each.  Macgregor Johnston has a team-high 16 assists while Shafer has 12.  Defensively, Justin Goodwin leads the Storm with 76 groundballs.  Adam Bakular and Justin Goodwin have combined to cause 41 turnovers. Rashad Brown has won 60% (132-of-219) of his faceoffs and is second on the team with 49 groundballs. Nicholas Simonetti has made 69 saves in net while Tom Lipomi has 44.

STORM QUARTET EARNS ECAC HONORS: Trevor Tarte, Justin Goodwin, Rashad Brown and Austin Bishop swept the ECAC Conference Player of the Week honors for their play in the 14th-ranked Storm wins over Roberts Wesleyan College (April 16) and Walsh University. Tarte tallied a total of nine points on seven goals, two assists for the week to earn his second Offensive Player of the Week honors of the season. Goodwin totaled 18 groundballs and eight caused turnovers over the course of the week for his second ECAC Defensive Player of the Week honors. Brown won 28-of-37 (75.6%) of his faceoffs and collected 10 groundballs in two games to earn his second ECAC Specialist of the Week honors this season. Bishop totaled nine points on four goals, five assists while collecting three groundballs to earn ECAC Co-Rookie of the Week honors for the third time this season.

FORECAST: The Storm is in action next week at the ECAC Championships.
