DANBURY, Conn.—Three members of the Lake Erie College men's lacrosse team earned Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) honors this week for their performances in wins at 11th-ranked University of Mount Olive and 14th-ranked Belmont Abbey College.
Nicholas Simonetti (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Jerome/Queens), Reagan Harding (Saskatoon, Sask./Bishop James Mahoney) and Lucas Shafer (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) were named Defensive, Specialist and Rookie of the week, respectively.
Simonetti led the Storm to two wins in goal. Against Mount Olive, Simonetti made nine stops, including one in the final five seconds of play to send the game into overtime. In the extra sessions, Simonetti made two saves. In the win over Belmont Abbey, Simonetti made 10 saves. On the year, Simonetti is 4-0 in net.
Harding had an impressive showing in the faceoff circle against Mount Olive, winning 13-of-15 faceoffs for the Storm.
Shafer earned his second Rookie of the Week honors this season by putting up five goals and one assist. He scored four goals against Mount Olive- including the game winner. Against Belmont Abbey, Shafer added one more.
The Storm is back in action this weekend, traveling south to face top-ranked Limestone College.
