Late Surge Lifts Florida Southern Over Storm

LAKELAND, Fl. – The Lake Erie College men's lacrosse team was in action today as they were defeated by Florida Southern, 13-12.

Florida Southern gained early control of the game as they scored a trio of early goals to take a 3-0 lead.  After Florida Southern took a 4-0 lead, the Storm got on the scoreboard when Tim Bay (Canadaigua, N.Y. / Canadaigua Academy) scored off an assist by Brandon Donohue (South Buffalo, N.Y. / Bishop Timon St. Jude).  Lake Erie cut into the lead with a second straight goal, as Mitchell Stokes (New Westminster, B.C. / New Westminster Secondary) found the back of the net, to make the score, 4-2. After over five minutes of scoreless action, the Storm made it a one goal game when John Kezerian (Melrose, Mass. / Malden Catholic) scored for the Storm.   

Lake Erie's momentum carried over to the second quarter as Kezerian tied the game at four goals apiece with his second goal.  Six seconds later the Storm took the lead when Connor Ward (Clarkston, Mich. / Clarkston) scored off an assist by Bay.    Three minutes later Donohue scored the Storm's sixth consecutive goal to put Lake Erie ahead, 6-4.  Florida Southern stopped the Storm run with a goal, with just over five minutes remaining in the half.  Lake Erie regained their two goal advantage when Nicholas Tschetter (Hilton, N.Y. / Aquanis Institute) scored his first goal of the game.  The Mocs scored a late goal, but entered the intermission behind, 7-6. 

Three minutes into the second half the Storm took an 8-6 lead when Ward scored off a pass from Donohue.   The Mocs took the lead in the game with three straight goals, which gave them a 9-8 advantage.  With just under seven minutes remaining in the quarter the duo of Donohue and Ward combined to tie the game for the Storm.  Florida Southern added a pair of goals and took an 11-9 edge.  Ward scored for the Storm off an assist by Bay with under a minute to play in the third quarter, to make the score 11-10 entering the fourth quarter. 

Two minutes into the fourth quarter the Storm equalized the game as Tschetter scored his second goal of the game for the Storm.  The teams then traded goals as Bay scored for the Storm and the match remained tied at 12 goals apiece.  Florida Southern took the lead with just over two minutes remaining in the game, 13-12.  The Storm had the ball late but were unable to convert and fell, 13-12. 

The Storm was led by Ward as he had a game high four goals for the Storm.  Bay pitched in with a pair of goals and a pair of assists for the Storm.            

In net for the Storm was Dylan Dix (Rochester, N.Y. / Gates Chili) he faced 39 shots, 25 of which were on goal and made 12 saves for the Storm. 

Lake Erie will be back in action Wednesday (March 8) when they have their home opener against Mount Olive with the game set to start at 1 p.m.
