Storm Falls On Road To Maryville

(ST. LOUIS) – Lake Erie battled a rising Maryville team until the end, but eventually fell by a score of 10-7 on the road Saturday afternoon. The Storm (0-5) continue to search for their first win of the season with a brutal opening schedule in which the five teams they've lost to have a combined record of 28-8. The Saints (8-1) look to move into the top 25 after winning their seventh consecutive contest.

The Storm held the advantage for most of the first half and led by as many as three after Tommy Bischel scored on a power play midway through the second quarter. Tim Bay provided the assist to make it 6-3 with 6:23 to go in the half, but just over a minute later saw the Saints answer to make it a two-goal game going into the break.

The third quarter proved fruitful for the hosts while the Storm struggled offensively. The result saw the Saints outscore Lake Erie 3-0 to gain their first lead since the first goal of the game. The run went to 5-0 until Tommy Bischel scored on a Kyle Barna helper to make it 8-7 with 10:11 to go in the game. The score remained there until the Saints added a pair around the five-minute mark left in the game.

Bischel joined Blain Wallace in having a multiple-goal game, while Barna and Patrick Bay had multiple-point games.

Bret Swan was masterful on face-offs once again as he went 17-of-21 off the start. Tim Bay led the team with four ground balls.

Defensively Conor Sharkey and Johnny Wilson III split time in goal. Sharkey made eight saves while Wilson tallied five.

Lake Erie now preps for G-MAC play and will welcome No. 13 Mercyhurst to Jack Britt Memorial Stadium. Faceoff with the Lakers is set for 1 p.m. on Saturday.
