(INDIANAPOLIS) – The Great Midwest Athletic Conference announced its weekly honors for men's lacrosse and Bret Swan has been named Defensive Player of the Week. The Acton City, Ontario, native helped Lake Erie win its only game of the week with a 19-7 decision over conference foe Walsh. It's the fewest goals the Storm have allowed this season.
Swan won 18-of-21 face-offs against the Cavaliers and picked up 12 ground balls on the day as well. His contributions in the circle resulted into more offensive possession for the Green and White as they outshot Walsh 50-25. He even scored a goal on his only shot taken on the day.
Overall this season he is fifth in the nation in ground balls per game with 10.71 and eighth in face-off winning percentage with a 71.7 percent success rate. In his last four games Swan has won 94-of-104 face-offs.
Swan also is listed twice in the national top five for most ground balls in a single game this season. He's pulled out 23 on two separate occasions with a player from LIU Post holding onto the top three spots.
The Storm will head back into action this Wednesday as they host Indianapolis. Face-off with the Greyhounds is set for noon at Jack Britt Stadium.
