PAINESVILLE, OHIO – Junior goalkeeper Ricky Carreira (Toronto, Ont./Dante Alighieri Academy) accomplished the rare feat of saving two penalty kicks in one game and it helped carry Lake Erie College (4-4) to a 2-1 victory over Alderson-Broaddus College (1-6-1) in a home match at Jack Britt Memorial Stadium.
Those two stops were part of seven saves Carreira made in goal, with one coming in each period.
Lake Erie got on the board first in the 11th minute, when freshman Danny Eborall (Sheffield, England) scored his third goal of the season from 10 yards out on the right side, with the feed coming from senior Miroslav Pezer (Mentor, Ohio). That last until the 37th minute when Paul Ogedegbe scored from five yards out on a dish from Jose Noriega to tie the score at 1-1 going to half.
In the 54th minute, Lake Erie scored as Nathan Bias (Dayton, Ohio/Kettering Fairmont) tallied his team-leading fifth goal when junior Jake Shelton (Newburg, Md./Webber International University) send in a cross from the right side. Eborall tipped the pass over to Bias who was unmarked on the back post.
Lake Erie was able to make that lead stand up, allowing Alderson-Broaddus attempt just three shots over the final 45 minutes.
Lake Erie won the battle of shots, 13-9, and attempt all seven corner kicks in the match. The Storm dominated the game's best chances.
The Storm is in action next on Tuesday as they travel to Ohio Valley University for a non-conference contest.
