PAINESVILLE, OHIO -- Lake Erie College (4-5-2, 2-2-2 GLIAC) stood toe-to-toe and often face-to-face in a physical match with GLIAC leader Northwood University (6-1-1, 4-1-1 GLIAC), earning a 1-1 road tie.
Lake Erie was only able to put one shot on goal in the match but it connected and was enough to keep the Storm in contention for a GLIAC playoff spot. Northwood put six shots on goal but five were stopped by junior goalkeeper Ricky Carreira (Toronto, Ont./Dante Alighieri Academy).
It was a hotly contested game on both sides with a total of 11 cards handed out in the contest. Northwood had five of those, including falling a man down in the 69th minute following a red card. Lake Erie earned a red card in the 89th minute, and had six total cards levied in the match.
In the first half, the Storm was unable to attempt a single shot and fell behind 1-0 as Northwood scored in the 39th minute as Joey Censoni sent a nice pass ahead to the foot of D.J. Evans who scored from eight yards out.
The second half was much more closely contested with both teams attempting five shots. In the 74th minute Lake Erie converted on one of those to even the game as sophomore Danny Eborall (Sheffield, England/Averett University)scored his fourth goal of the season on a header off a free kick by Stewart Bath (Billingham, England/Averett University).
Northwood had a 4-0 advantage in shots during the overtime periods but put just one on goal which Carreira was able to haul in.
Lake Erie has a full week off, returning to action next Sunday with a key home match against Ashland University at 2:00 p.m.
