The win made it a sweep for the Storm over the area GLIAC rival after a 2-0 win in Ashland earlier this season.
Lake Erie scored in the 32nd minute as a deflected ball found freshman Cory Bucur (Bedford, Ohio/St. Peter Chanel) 10 yards out in the front of the goal with Bucur able to drive one past the Eagle keeper.
Neither team found the scoreboard again until late in the contest. In the 81st minute, Ashland's J.P Lytle sent a beautiful pass from just inside midfield to a streaking Kenny Hewitt five yards out to even the score at 1-1. That lasted just four minutes as Cognee took a his own throw-in, which was deflected back to him, and worked around the left side, just narrowly beating the keeper and striking the far post for the key goal.
Ashland won the battle of shots 12-11 in a game which say an even control of possession between the two squads.
In goal for the Storm, junior Ricky Carriera (Toronto, Ont./Dante Alighieri Academy) made four saves.
Lake Erie close out its home slate next weekend with two key matches, facing Saginaw Valley State Friday and Northwood Sunday.
